December 6, 2010: Hey again, did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? We had dinner with some friends, did some work at the house and mostly
took it easy the rest of the long weekend. Lisa worked the weekend and I was on the hook to watch the horses, chickens and a couple extra dogs.
Earlier in the week we got our first taste of snow for the season and like always it stopped the world. It got very cold after the snow so things iced up pretty bad,
which kept me from getting to work for a day or two but I can do all of my work from home so that wasn't a big deal. The snow is gone now and the weather is closer to
normal for this time of year. Work for both of us is crazy busy and it's all that we have to keep up with it and the house stuff that we have to do. Speaking of
the house, things are still moving along, just not as fast as we'd like them to. So far I've been able to wire up all of the low voltage systems we want and have also
insulated all of the interior walls and first floor ceilings. This past weekend I insulated the entire garage because now the building code requires the garage to be
drywalled and taped so it made sense to insulate it first. It was a messy job and cost a couple hundred bucks but now we have a fully insulated garage that during Winter
will be comfortable to work in with just a small heater. The rest of the house's exterior walls were insulated late last week and the drywall should have been started
today. I'll stop by on my way home and try to grab a couple of photos but it's tough with it getting dark so early. The new shed is built and only needs some
interior shelves and exterior paint to be totally complete. I'll install the rubber floor tiles and electric later this summer, they can totaly wait. While in the
crawlspace working on the low voltage wiring I discovered that the large pine tree in our front yard had roots that had made their way under the foundation. The tree is
also only about 18" away from the corner of the house so last week was it's last, we had someone take it down and grind the stump away on Monday. We were sad to see it
go as it provides late afternoon shade and a little privacy but we really couldn't risk it being around any longer. I took a bunch of pictures of the rebuild over the
weekend and will do my best to get them posted up tonight, a few are up now as teasers. Have a good week and we'll talk again before the holidays.
