Wind Storm 2006

Only 5 days after we moved into our first house a wind storm hit the area, they are calling it the worst storm in history.  The wind was clocked at 69 mph, it took down trees, killed 4 people, and knocked out power for over 1.4 million households.  We lost power at about 8pm Thursday and got it back at about 10am Sunday.  We have a bunch of large pine trees in our back yard and none of them came down but they shed a bunch of branches, one of them landing on a skylight in our kitchen.  We're told that it won't fall in because it's made from safety glass and it may be a while before we can get a replacement put in.  Enjoy the pictures!

The front yard was full of branches from the trees behind the house

These branches are over 2" in diameter, they didn't land far from my truck

At about 2:30am a branch landed right on the divider between the panes of glass then slid off and broke the outer layer of the pane on the left

Only a few pieces landed in the kitchen, you can see how the metal support is bent where the branch hit it

We're lucky the branch didn't come right through the window and land in the kitchen

More branches in the back yard

You can see the huge trees in the back yard that caused all these problems

We were lucky that the two trucks didn't get hit, the house blocked them from the flying branches

A couple branches hit the crappy metal shed in the side yard, no big deal, that shed will be torn down soon

I loaded up all the big branches and took them to one of the places set up by the town.  I had to cut some of them three times so they would fit in the truck!
