Tuckerman's Ravine April 2005

We were lucky enough to get the best weather I have ever seen on the mountain on a day that Lisa didn't have to study and I wasn't on call, what are the chances!  We made the trip last minute but the hike was amazing.  Isis did really well and we got some great pictures too.  We already can't wait for next year.

A view of the mountain from the highway as we were walking to base camp

Almost halfway to the base of the ravine

Getting closer, almost at the hut below the ravine

Hanging out before making the last assent to the bottom of the ravine, there were about 500 other people there

Nice wide view of the ravine

Strong words but no joke, we didn't see any falling ice but heard someone was sent to the hospital by some the next day

Stopping to give Isis some water she was more interested in the people walking by, we were almost into the ravine

We're there, those tiny dots on the mountain are people hiking up to ski

The famous "Lunch Rocks", where people hang out, eat, rest, and watch the skiers

More people hiking up to make a run, starting at halfway it's about a 70% slope

This is the top of the headwall, it's basically vertical, click for a movie of someone wiping out, you can hear the crowd cheering

Isis wanted to run around with all the other dogs until Lisa shared her turkey sandwich with her

Everyone loved Isis's bag, she looked like a rescue dog

We stopped at this waterfall along the trail on the way back down to base camp
