Pole Pedal Paddle 2007

Piseth convinced me to do the paddle leg of the Pole Pedal Paddle race in Bend, OR this year.  Lisa wasn't able to make it due to work but she'll be racing next year for sure, we're planning far in advance next time.  I was afraid that I wouldn't be all that comfortable in my boat but as soon as I got in it felt great.  I got to meet a few new really cool people and we did pretty well overall.  We finished 8th out of 29 teams in our division and age group and were only 25 seconds behind the 6th place team!  The weather was perfect and the drive down was very scenic, we really can't wait until next year, we're shooting for 3rd place!

Piseth had to run up hill in his gear, put on his skis, then ski down to the first exchange point

He had to ski down from the summit and tag Pat for the Nordic section

Pat had to ski 8 km on the nordic ski trails

He just finished the Nordic and tagged Evans for the long bike ride

Evans had to ride 35 km into Bend, he averaged 30 mph and hit 49 mph at one point!

Trying to stay warm before his ride, it was 24 degrees!

Jenny had to run the 10 km course then tag me for the boat leg

She just started her run, it was 70 degrees down in Bend

I had to paddle upstream 0.8 km then downstream 1.2 km then back upstream 0.4 km to tag Liz who then had to sprint 0.5 km to the finish line

The sea of kayaks in the staging area, once I got tagged by Jenny I had to run for my boat and get it to the water

I was paddling as hard as I ever have, the entire time!

The current was 5+ mph so going down stream was fast, very fast

Liz coming in toward the finish after the sprint

Here we are the Weekend Warriors, total time 2:33:40
